HONDA is celebrating having passed the benchmark UK sales figure of 100,000 cars in a year.

The final figure for the 2006 to 2007 financial year was 100,300 cars, the majority of which were Civic and Jazz models.

Honda's previous record for UK car sales was set in 2005, when it sold 98,000 vehicles.

Honda's sales figures have grown steadily during the last decade, rising from 26,000 cars a year in 1991 to 50,000 in 1995, 60,000 in 1997 and 90,000 by 2004.

Jeff Dodds, head of marketing at Honda UK, said: "In 1994 we set ourselves the huge target of achieving 100,000 units in a year. Back then, we sold under 30,000 cars, and the only markets to sell 100,000 were America and Japan. Just 13 years later, we've realised our dream - and it's a fantastic achievement for everyone involved." Honda is also planning a record production year for 2007, with its Swindon plant expected to build more than 200,000 cars this year and 250,000 in 2008.
