PEUGEOT's new £14,995 207 GTi will be packed with both safety and performance features when it goes on sale in the UK in June.

The 207 GTi THP 175 has six airbags as standard and two Isofix child safety seat mountings at the rear. It uses the same protective structure as the rest of the 207 range, meaning drivers and passengers will benefit from a five-star Euro NCAP test result.

Among the other safety features and driver aids available are rear parking sensors, elliptical headlamps incorporating static directional lighting, a speed limiter and cruise control, automatic headlamps and wipers, tyre under-inflation sensors and an electro-chrome interior rear-view mirror.

The GTi also features Peugeot's new steering stability program, a function that communicates between the ESP system and electric power steering when braking on slippery surfaces. The system applies more braking power to the wheels with good grip and applies torque to the steering.

According to Peugeot, SSP reduces braking distances between four and ten per cent while guaranteeing vehicle stability in a straight line. The 1.6-litre, turbo engine produces 175 horsepower. It looks fast too, thanks to 17-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, satin black B-pillars and satin chrome door mirrors.
