A SIX-STOREY building in Oxford University’s science area could be extended under plans for more chemistry laboratories.
The university has proposed a two-storey extension south of the Tinbergen Building in South Parks Road.
The block, which currently houses a number of departments, including zoology and experimental psychology, was built in the 1960s.
Under the proposals, about 300sqm of floorspace would be replaced by 1,600sqm of new space.
The scheme involves demolishing some structures next to the sports ground neighbouring the site, the university said, adding that the existing buildings would also be refurbished.
A planning application is expected later this summer and the university has said it would carry out the demolition work this summer as well.
In a statement it said: “It is also intended to replace some of the ‘pods’ that provide the stepped profile of the building and the accommodation of pods to create further accommodation and to reflect the original design concept of the building.”
Two consultations are being held at the St Cross Building in St Cross Road, on Friday, July 17, from 4pm to 7pm and on Saturday, July 18, between 10am and 1pm.
