A COUPLE who have raised more than £60,000 in memory of their one-year-old son will put the money towards vein-finding technology.

David and Hannah Cole, from Kirtlington, set up the charity Thinking of Oscar after their son passed away in June last year after contracting encephalitis.

The youngster was being treated for a bone infection in hospital before he contracted the condition, which causes inflammation to the brain.

One year on, the couple have raised more than £60,000 in Oscar’s memory and have announced this will go towards enhancing the experience for young children and their families at the Oxford Children’s Hospital.

Oscar had to have a large number of blood tests and intravenous procedures, but due to his young age it was often difficult to locate a vein. The Coles came across a solution in a non-invasive vein-finding device called AccuVein, which illuminates the skin and enhances the visual contrast of the veins.

The money the couple have raised through events such as the Blenheim Triathlon earlier this month will pay for a series of the devices to be introduced at the hospital on the JR site in Headington.

One device has already been trialled.
