MINIATURE traction engines were on show at a vintage rally, thanks to a change in the event’s location.

The Burford Vintage Rally has been held for about 35 years, but last weekend’s rally was the first time it was staged at Rough Grounds Farm, in Lechlade, Gloucestershire.

According to the rally’s organiser Ray Pitts, the venue was one-and-a-half times larger than its previous location at Burford Road Playing Fields. In total there were 53 oil engines, 40 vintage cars, 40 trade stalls and – for the first time – machines with steel-rimmed wheels.

The chairman of Burford Collectors Club Mr Pitts said some tractors and steam engines could not be displayed at previous events because they would damage the surface.

He said: “It’s exciting because people had been asking to bring them but we had to say ‘sorry’ they couldn’t because the surface would not take it. Before we could only have certain exhibits but here we can welcome everybody.”

On display was a Wallis and Steevens miniature engine.

Eight-year-old Daniel Faizey, went along with his mum Karen, and said: “I really enjoyed looking at the pigs.”
