A chaplain of Trinity College in Broad Street, Oxford, has supported the proposal to refer to God as “she” put forward by a group of women in the Church of England.
Reverend Emma Percy agrees that feminine words can be used to describe God just as much as we use masculine words.
The group of women have raised the cause in a bid to combat sexism and to be more inclusive.
Rev Percy said: “Both men and women over the years have been very keen to show God in the language we use, not as a man.
“We are trying to raise it with the Church of England clerical commission to agree the type of language we can use.”
