NEW looks for the summer were on display at the Covered Market as it hosted a fashion show for its independent shops.

The summer fashion show was held on Saturday and featured the newest trends from shops in the market including Ansari, Fresh Clothing, Macsamillion, Next to Nothing, The Hat Box and Thena.

The event is believed to have been the first fashion show held at the central Oxford market in its 200 year history.

Speaking before the event, organiser Sultan Ansari, from Ansari fashion shop, said: “A group of retailers have got together to host this event. The market was built in 1774 and this is the first time ever that a fashion show has been staged under this historic roof.

“There’ll be lots of exciting and colourful new clothes on show and we hope it’ll be lots of fun for all those involved and the public.”

Amber Shepherd, 19, from Brackley, near Bicester, was invited to take part by staff at Thena.

She said: “I’m studying history and politics at Sheffield University at the moment but I was back for the show.

“I had so much fun taking part.”

Also modelling on the catwalk was 14-year-old Thena Brooker from Kidlington, pictured, whose mum Ratana runs Thena.

The event saw a range of styles paraded in the centre of the Covered Market, with more casual summer styles being shown off alongside designer brands.
