A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a piece about New World Sauvignon Blancs in general and New Zealand's Cloudy Bay in particular. However, did the offer include a single bottle of Cloudy Bay's cult Sauvignon Blanc?

Sadly, it did not. Were there howls of complaint in my postbag? Well, yes, there were.

So, thanks to those clever folk at the Oxford Wine Company, we are now able to right this terrible wrong with a very special Cloudy Bay case offer which we have sourced exclusively for The Oxford Times Wine Club.

Ask any wine aficionado and they will tell you that this is an offer not to be missed. This is partly because these wines are some of the most exciting bottles that you will taste in this or any other year.

But it is also because some of these wines are in very limited supply. As a result, The Oxford Times Wine Club has only so much to go round, which means it is a case of first come, first served. Therefore, I urge you not to delay - to avoid disappointment!

What I particularly like about this case is that, not only does it contain three bottles of Cloudy Bay's barnstormingly brilliant 2006 Sauvignon Blanc, it also includes some of its less well-known wines, including its sublimely sparkling Pelorus and its exquisite Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

I have written about the Pelorus and recommended it in these pages on numerous occasions, largely because I believe that, when it comes to New World fizz, this is one of the best there is.

Of course, these days, Cloudy Bay is owned by the LVMH conglomerate which owns a clutch of rather good Champagne brands, including Veuve Clicquot, Krug and Moet.

Since 1990, Cloudy Bay has been part of the group, although both its founders David Hohnen and Kevin Judd have continued to run the business.

Meanwhile, what more can I, or anyone, say about Cloudy Bay's stunning Sauvignon Blancs?

Well, one of the secrets of Cloudy Bay's success is the small amount of Semillon which is cleverly blended in with the Sauvignon. It varies from two to 15 per cent, depending on the vintage, and invariably offers additional complexity.

But there are other tricks of Judd's winemaking trade, including the way he harvests the fruit in three separate phases.

Some grapes are picked early to capture the naturally crisp acidity. Then, most of the crop is brought in at perfect ripeness for fruit character. Lastly, a few bunches are picked right at the last possible moment to give a bit of exotic super-ripe, tropical fruit to the 'blend'.

Yet, despite the many awards which the winery has picked up for its superstar Sauvignon, Cloudy Bay has been cleverly extending its range and now has plenty of other clubs in its golf bag.

For instance, its Chardonnay has been around for a few years now and is still one of New Zealand's best. So, too, is its beguilingly good Pinot Noir. Without question, New Zealand has become one of the most exciting places in the world to produce Pinot Noir. And Cloudy Bay's 2003 Pinot Noir proves the point to perfection.

But, then, Kevin Judd is nothing less than a highly-talented, innovative and creative winemaker, whose top-class wines are founded on meticulous viticulture and a judicious blend of modern winemaking and traditional vinification.

The result is a range of wines with style, structure, complexity and balance. He's also got an eye for a good picture and has even produced a delightful coffee table book of vineyard images taken in the Land of the Long White Cloud, called The Colour of Wine.

However, if you aren't one of the lucky ones able to buy this Cloudy Bay case offer, you might be interested in a new and innovative service which will allow wine enthusiasts to track down and enjoy Cloudy Bay's sought-after wines in a range of UK restaurants.

At just the click of a button, the Cloudy Bay Locator website service will provide a restaurant guide which maps out select prestige outlets that stock the range. By simply logging on to cloudybaylocator.co.uk, consumers will be able to 'reserve' their preferred bottle of Cloudy Bay along with their table.
