An angry homeowner thinks drunken partygoers leaving a late night student venue at Oxford Brookes University are responsible for vand- alising his car.

Martin Young, 61, who lives in a private road off Headington Hill, found his car with a 'to let' sign smashed through the windscreen and breeze blocks thrown through the windows.

He said: "People are coming out of the venue drunk at the end of the night and no measures are being taken to make sure that they are dispersed properly.

"Brookes invite residents to attend regular meetings where they ask us to comment on any problems that we're having. They say that they will address them, but nothing ever happens."

The Headington Hill Hall site is home to a student union venue that hosts a late night club every Friday.

The venue is also popular with non-students for its club nights, gigs and cheap alcohol.

Mr Young said: "I think that the whole agenda of the venue needs to be addressed. Brookes want to make it Oxford's number one night spot and for the local residents, that's a big no no."

Bob Newy, 68, of Gipsy Lane, said: "I'm not anti- Brookes or against people having fun, but I would say there is a disturbance of some kind at least once a week.

"Brookes say that there is no way of proving they are their students, but consider- ing the time of the disturb- ances and the fact that they are walking away from that area, there is only one place they could have been."

In a statement, Brookes said: "Any student found responsible would face disciplinary action by the university in addition to any action by the police."

It added it worked closely with the student union to ensure there was no disruption to the community and that campaigns were run continually to remind visitors of their responsibilities.
