Sir - I hesitate to cross swords with so distinguished a contributor to your columns as Mr Hugh Jaeger, but his suggestion of an Oxford Parkway station at Wolvercote (Letters, March 23) really will not do.
Most rail passengers need to reach the centre of town directly, not to have to undertake a further 30-minute journey by bus.
The money should be spent on the proposed Oxpens station, built as part of a comprehensive bus/rail interchange to encourage us to use public transport. It would provide a flexibility that is lacking in the current station development plans.
And as for the sustainable delivery of construction materials, very important for the Westgate and other central Oxford developments, how about reinstating the rail sidings behind the Oxpens Royal Mail centre? Users of the Botley and Abingdon roads would be eternally grateful.
