VETERAN councillor and former Lord Mayor of Oxford, Barbara Gatehouse, has been elected the new leader of Oxfordshire County Council's Labour group.
The former advice centre worker has replaced Liz Brighouse who has stepped down to stand for the politically-neutral position of county council chairman.
Mrs Gatehouse, who represented Blackbird Leys on the city council from 1979 to 1996, said she would continue to campaign for a reduction in the number of people waiting for care home places or home support.
