Come rain or shine, not everyone will be putting their feet up on Good Friday this week, writes Tim Follett.

The annual Radley Good Friday Walk is fast approaching - a 12.5 mile journey from the car park of the Bowyer Arms in the village to Carfax in Oxford and back.

It all started in 1963 over a casual drink in the pub bar.

Jack Parsons bet his friend George Steptoe a pint of beer that he could walk the quickest from the Bowyer Arms to Carfax and back. And he did.

The two decided to repeat the walk the following year and it soon became a village tradition, surviving even when Jack and George became too old to participate.

Now in its 44th year, the walk is expected to attract a large turnout on Friday, with participants from all over Oxfordshire. Call organiser Chris Gasson on 01235 526377 if you want to take part.
