Teenagers raised £1,500 for a life-changing trip to Bulgaria by organising a fundraising gig in Oxford.
The 15-strong group of youngsters, excluded from school for misbehaving, are to lead an expedition to the eastern European country next month to work in an orphanage.
And on Saturday they hosted a concert at the East Oxford Community Centre to raise cash for the trip. Acts included Inflatable Buddha and The Conscripts.
The students, from across Oxfordshire, follow an alternative curriculum with educational group Frontiers at a centre near Goring.
Frontiers spokesman James Schumann said about £1,500 was raised towards the £10,000 target.
The youngsters, aged 15 and 16, plan to teach the older orphans many of the skills they have learnt at Frontiers - such as bush-craft, agriculture and running forest camps.
