Sir – Matt Oliver’s report (April 9) about the proposal filed by St John’s College to build a nursery in Bainton Road uses the phrase ‘traffic concerns heard’. The impression given is that the plans acknowledge residents’ concerns.
Not so in fact: There are two blind corners at either end of the proposed site where accidents already happen on slippery days. The report also ignores the fact that St John’s traffic survey omits cyclists when calculating movements. If two-wheeled movements are included, the numbers more than double to over 70 in the 8-9am period, excluding prams and children on foot en route to Phil and Jims.
With these concerns unanswered and the proposal also introducing a commercial development into a wholly residential scene there is much to ponder about this scheme.
