MORE train delays saw services between Reading and Didcot Parkway delayed by up to 15 minutes yesterday.

Network Rail said signalling problems led to the delays, which hit commuters between shortly before 7am and about 8.30am.

Spokeswoman Hannah McCarthy said: “A track circuit failure was reported at 6.50am and we had a team on site by 7.20am to investigate.

“Initially trains were delayed both ways, the majority of which were trains towards Oxford.

“Sixteen trains were affected.”

It came just two days after Network Rail apologised for signalling problems that delayed trains throughout the county last week.

The company said “ageing equipment”

had caused the problems at Slough, in Berkshire, which caused hold -ups to services between Banbury, Oxford and London.

Some trains were delayed by up to an hour, such as the London Paddington to Oxford service last Tuesday.

In a statement to apologise for the delays the company said: “We apologise to passengers for the disruption and inconvenience caused by the signalling issues in the Thames Valley area last week.

“It is not the level of service we wish to provide, nor is it the level of service that passengers expect and deserve.

“This only goes to reinforce the importance of replacing all our ageing signalling equipment, which is being delivered through our £7.5 billion modernisation programme,” the spokesman added.
