WINDOWS have been smashed and valuables stolen from 14 vehicles parked on the Ridgeway in rural Oxfordshire over the past few weeks.

Police have increased their patrols after vehicles parked near the Ridgeway in Wantage, Ashbury and Ardington have been targeted.

Pc Ben Peach, of Thames Valley Police, said: "The offenders are targeting vehicles that are left by owners as they either walk their dogs or are out for an afternoon stroll.

"The vehicles are broken into by smashing a window and then they search for valuables.

"There are signs at the locations warning people about the risks of leaving valuables in their vehicles, but it would appear the offenders are breaking into vehicles even if there are no personal belongings on show.

"We are conducting regular patrols and future operations are planned to catch these offenders.

"We need people to come forward with any information or if any suspicious people or vehicles are seen around the locations."
