Your editorial (Oxford Mail, March 15) asks whether Campsfield House detention centre at Kidlington is fit for purpose?

Most of the buildings at the centre are of nine-inch brickwork, which does not catch fire during an arson attack as the 'new', fit-for-purpose detention centre, Yarlswood in Bedfordshire, did.

It was predicted by the staff at Campsfield what would happen if the security company, GEO UK, took over Campsfield House. That has come to fruition.

The question should be - are those in the Home Office who gave GEO UK the contract, fit for purpose?
