Well done to MPs Andrew Smith and Evan Harris for having the good sense to vote against replacing Trident (Oxford Mail, March 15).
What a shame none of Oxfordshire's Tory MPs did the same. Trident submarines are no use at all against terrorists.
Should another country ever threaten Britain with a nuclear attack, the best defence would be collective.
Every other country should gang up on the bully. The rearmament agreed by most MPs will fuel the arms race.
The world will become a more dangerous place. Germany, Japan and most other nations do very well without nuclear weapons and so should we.
If weapons of mass destruction, such as Trident, are needed for Britain's defence, why are they not needed by Iran and North Korea?
Perhaps the Tories and outgoing Labour leader Tony Blair could explain.
