A teenage girl was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, in Oxford, with serious head injuries after a collision between a car and a coach on the A40 in the city today, police said. The injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The girl, 14, was a passenger in a Rover car, which collided with an Oxford-bound Oxford Bus Company London Espress service shortly after 9am near the Collinwood Road junction in Headington.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 20s, was also taken to the hospital but her injuries were not thought to be serious. Firefighters had to cut the pair from the car. The driver of the coach was unhurt, as were his seven passengers.

Long delays in the area and tailbacks along the A40 back towards the M40 junction, near Wheatley, were reported more than three hours after the collision.

Police want to speak to anyone who was on the coach, and anyone else with information. They should call Pc Gregory Stewart on 08458 505505.
