Englishman Anthony Davidson begins his first full season as a Formula One driver at the Australian Grand Prix this weekend and is confident that his new team, Leafield-based Super Aguri, can make their mark in 2007.

The Hertfordshire man has spent the last six years as a test driver but was finally given his chance on the F1 circuit by team principal Aguri Suzuki, who chose Davidson to join Takuma Sato as the team's drivers for this season.

And, after enjoying a successful winter testing period in the team's new SA07 car, Davidson is confident they are well prepared for the season ahead.

"I am very happy," he said. "Reliability has been on our side and we have not caused one red-flag situation during testing so far, which is really good because a lot of the other teams have caused a lot of stoppages during testing.

"So I think that this has been one of our strengths going into the early part of the year especially."

The 27-year-old could have been forgiven for believing his chance as a full-time driver was never going to come, having raced in only three grand prix events since 2001.

And he plans to make steady improvement throughout his debut season in a bid to finish the year as strongly as possible.

"To bring a few points home for the team would make a dream year for me," Davidson added. "So my aims have to be to improve the car as the year goes on and be fighting for points at the end of the season.

"A personal aim is also for the last race to be my best race - I want to improve myself constantly as the year goes on."
