Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly woman in Little Milton was targeted by conmen.

The incident happened at about 4.30pm on Monday, when a man called at the house of an 85-year-old woman, in Old Field, claiming he had come to fix her broken fence.

The woman did not invite him into the house, but let him down the side gate into the garden.

She then went though the house and into the garden to speak with the man about the fence.

However, after the man left she found someone had searched through some of the rooms and taken cash.

Dc Georgia Bradley, from Thame CID, said: "In this instance the offenders have seen that the lady had a broken fence and used it as a way to get her out of the house and distract her.

"People should be aware that if a company does need to do some work to their house, they will usually call in advance."

The man is described as tall, with dark hair and was wearing a dark jacket and light trousers.

Anyone who saw the man, or anyone acting suspiciously in the area, is asked to call Dc Georgia Bradley on 08458 505505 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
