A BOGUS workman stole cash from the home of an 85-year-old woman in Little Milton.

At about 4.30pm on Monday, a man called at the house of an 85-year-old lady in Old Field. He said that he had come to fix her broken fence.

She did not let him into the house, but instead let him down the side gate into the garden. She then went through the house and out into the garden to speak with the man about the fence, leaving the back door open.

The man eventually left through the side gate and the woman returned to the house.

She found that someone had searched through some of the rooms and cash had been stolen.

Det Con Georgina Bradley, from Thame CID, said: "In this instance the offenders have seen that the lady had a broken fence and used it as a way to get her out of the house and distract her. People should be aware that if a company does need to do some work to their house, they will usually call in advance. If you do receive a cold caller, then ask for identification or failing that, call the company to check.

"If anyone did witness this incident or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area, then they should get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det Con May Bradley via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505, or if you don't want to talk to police or give your name, call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
