MICKEY Corcoran's excellent form for Oxford United has been rewarded with a call-up for the Northern Ireland Under 21 side.

Corcoran has rarely put a foot wrong at centre back since joining on loan from Cardiff and that form has earned him a place in the squad to play Romania away on Saturday, March 24.

And the good news for the U's is that it fits in perfectly with the Conference fixtures.

Corcoran will fly out on Thursday, March 22, the day after the U's play at Halifax, and will be back on Sunday, March 25, making him available for the home game against Dagenham & Redbridge the following evening.

Boss Jim Smith said of the call-up: "Michael has done ever so well since he arrived. He has been very consistent and deserves his chance with Northern Ireland."

Corcoran has struck up a fine partnership with Phil Gilchrist at the heart of the United defence, and was instrumental when they won four matches in a row at the start of the month.
