Sir - Any elected councillor involved in the choice of wheelie bins should certainly be held fully accountable for this fiasco.

Bob Williams (Letters, March 2) is wrong to discourage criticism of Jean Fooks, regardless of how aggressive or childish he deems it. Her statement of "only 15 complaints" is an outrage that trumps any spin from Downing Street. If she really thinks she could get away with such deception then she has lost touch with reality. The latest appearance of the "mega" wheelie bin coloured an almost fluorescent shade of green is such a blight on the North Oxford conservation area, one can only be amazed how someone with so little taste or sensitivity could be elected by us as a councillor. Why on earth was this colour chosen rather than the innocuous dark green of the standard wheelie bin, which itself has met with disapproval? On the evidence that residents do not choose to paint their front doors such a colour, or indeed drive cars painted such a colour, it should be obvious to the dimmest of politicians that voters don't want such a colour in their driveway.

In failing to apologise or offer to align her actions with the interests of her voters, she merely encourages more angry criticism. This is the way democracy works.
