Conmen stole money and personal documents from an 89-year-old woman after bluffing their way into her home.

Police are appealing for witness to the incident, which happened at about 3.15pm on Monday.

Three men called at the woman's house in Boxhedge Square, Banbury, and said they were from the council and had come to fit a security alarm.

While one of the thieves distracted the woman, the other two searched the house before all three left. It is not known how much money was taken.

Pc Rebecca McCamley, from the Banbury priority crime team, said: "This was a callous act which has left the lady very shaken.

"I would ask anybody who may have witnessed the incident or saw three men in the area acting suspiciously to get in touch.

"We want people to be aware of the tactics that groups like these have employed to gain access, distract the occupants and commit crime so that they are less likely to become another victim."

Anyone with information should call Pc McCamley on 0845 8505505, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
