A JURY has cleared a man accused of being responsible for the death of a farm worker who climbed in a pig slurry pit.
Matthew Shuttleworth, of Carrimers Farm, Aston Tirrold, died at the farm in June 2005 after going into a slurry pit to fix a faulty pump.
David Bevin, 38, of Barwell, Leicestershire, was cleared today by a jury at Oxford Crown Court of manslaughter.
After the jury's verdict, Geoffrey Allen, 50, of Carrimers Farm, was fined £6,000 after pleading guilty to breaching the Health and Safety at Works Act 1974 by failing to ensure the health, safety and well being of employees.
