Railway Social Club A have retained the Greene King ODDA Winter League Premier Section title after beating visitors Shears for their 12th win in 13 games.

The ultra-consistent Olly Varney (180) led the way for Railway with a win over Dave Exell in the opener and other singles victories followed for Richard Park, Barry Stratford (180) and Mark Stocker.

Shears' other success came from Kevin Wilkins (2x180), who defeated Ronnie Anderson to level the scores at 2-2.

A 2-1 pairs success gave Railway a 6-3 verdict overall.

The battle for the Section 1 title saw leading contenders Angel and Shelley Arms C both win.

Angel defeated the visiting College Oak 7-2 and Shelley C hammered their own A team 8-1.

It looks like a two-horse race for the Section 2 crown.

Steventon Social Club defeated Final Whistle 7-2 to take a one-point lead into their final fixture, while Rowing Machine kept their hopes alive with a 6-3 victory over the visiting Quarry Gate A.

Cowley Workers Club are the Section 3 champions, celebrating with a fine 7-2 triumph over Masons Arms A.

It was their 12th success of the season in which their main contributor has been Wayland Honour, unbeaten in all 13 games.

Cherwell Club took a giant step towards the Section 5 title after an 8-1 win at home to Vikings SC and are now level with Grove House.

Having played one game less, Grove House kept their hopes alive with a 5-4 victory over Marsh Harrier.

Section 6 leaders Cowley CC crashed to a shock 6-3 defeat to visitors John Radcliffe SC, which allows Crown Inn to take over the top spot following their 7-2 success over Catherine Wheel A.

Prince of Wales A maintained their 100 per cent record when they defeated Tandem 7-2, but they still needing a win this week to be sure of the title.

Section 8 leaders Fairview were 4-2 down at home to Bricklayers Arms, but a 3-0 pairs success saw them run out overall victors 5-4.

Railway B take a three-point lead into the last fixture of the season after defeating Masons Arms C 6-3., but Follybridge Inn stay in touch thanks to a narrow 5-4 win over Golden Ball.
