Sir - I would love to be able to see Oxford through rose-tinted glasses like Chris Brewer (Letters, March 2).

On the Thursday before his letter appeared, I was by Bonn Square.

All I could see was a woman totally drunk, litter everywhere, grass totally worn away and fumes filling the air all around us.

The week before, on a Sunday morning we were walking over Magdalen Bridge. We had to step over filth and litter, fag ends and half-eaten meals in cartons on the bridge. Angel Meadow was a disgrace.

So really it doesn't matter what we pull down or put up, eventually it will all end up like Bonn Square. Sorry Mr Brewer!

K. Del Nevo, Oxford
