Sir - I am writing in order to make the public aware of what is happening in the village of Enstone. Increasingly as property is being made available on the market it is being bought by builders, in some cases in order to knock down houses and redevelop the land and in others to squeeze in extra houses.
The latest travesty is a plan to put 12 one-bedroom apartments with no amenities on to a third of an acre site within the village.
Recent surveys have shown that there is no demand for this type of dwelling in the village, but rather for small family homes with gardens. The wishes of the parish council in this matter have been ignored. In fact the district planning officer has rejected 18 letters of objection and the council's arguments forgetting entirely that this is a rural and not an urban community.
I thought that we lived in a democracy where local people had some say through their parish council and that home owners had some right to privacy, light, etc.
I realise that the final decisions are in the hands of our elected councillors and we just have to trust that they have common sense and integrity.
Rae Percival, Enstone
