HORSE racing fans heading to the National Hunt Festival in Cheltenham can let the train take the strain.

First Great Western is laying on three extra trains each day to and from the Gloucestershire town, which will all call at Didcot Parkway. The festival runs from Tuesday, March 13 until Friday, March 16.

The trains will leave Didcot at 8.56am, 9.56am and 10.56am, with the return services leaving Cheltenham at 7.36pm, 8.30pm and 9.29pm, arriving at Didcot about 1hr 25mins later. Other extra trains will run between Cheltenham and Swindon, for connections to Didcot.

A coach shuttle will link Cheltenham Spa railway station with the Prestbury Park racecourse.

FGW is advising passengers wanting to use these and all its other services to Cheltenham during the festival week to book tickets and reserve seats as soon as possible, as trains will be very busy.
