THE Cowley Road Carnival looks set to make a full comeback this year with the return of its colourful parade.

The carnival - Oxfordshire's biggest multicultural community event - takes place on Sunday, July 1.

Last year's carnival, which went ahead without the parade, attracted 20,000 people.

Adrian Sell, of carnival organisers East Oxford Action, said: "When we asked for feedback after last year's event, the procession was the thing people told us they had really missed on the day.

"This year will see the return of the parade, so we can now boast a full carnival for 2007.

"We hope to have many communities from Oxford and across the county represented and would love to hear from people wanting to get involved."

The carnival will also tie in with this year's celebrations marking Oxfordshire's 1,000th anniversary.

Mr Sell said: "We want to celebrate all the different people who have arrived in the county over the past 1,000 years and their different carnival and festival traditions.

As well as the parade, there will be music stages, children's areas, dancing, street shows, and food.

Mr Sell added: "What we need to make all this happen is for everyone to get involved. We want to hear from people and find out what they want to do.

"We would like to see people run stages, perform, busk, volunteer, run community stalls and lots of other things.

"We would like all of the diverse communities of East Oxford and the wider county to be represented in the parade. The only way we can make this happen is if you let us know what you want to be included."
