A PRIMARY school caretaker will appear before an Oxfordshire court today charged over the recent series of letter bombings, including devices sent to firms in Abingdon and Culham.

Miles Cooper, 27, has been charged with 12 offences under the Explosive Substances Act and the Offences Against the Person Act.

Nine people were hurt in the attacks in Oxfordshire, London, Swansea, the West Midlands, Berkshire and Kent.

The Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) said he would appear before Banbury Magistrates' Court today.

Cooper was arrested at his home on the outskirts of Cambridge at about 3am on Monday following a surveillance operation.

Anton Setchell, Acpo's national co-ordinator for domestic extremism, said: "We have now reached a point in this inquiry at which the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have authorised police to charge a man with several offences in connection with a series of improvised explosive devices that were sent through the post to companies and organisations; the details of those charges will be provided by the Crown Prosecution Service."
