Sir – In your report (March 19) on the catastrophic parking situation at the Headington hospitals, you quote a joint city and county council statement as justifying their refusal to allow further parking facilities on the grounds that ‘Extra car parking spaces at the hospitals would only draw further traffic to this part of Oxford’.
If I have understood the matter correctly, the councils’ policy can be summarised as follows: 1: We recognise that, because of the existence of the hospitals, more people need to be able to drive into Headington and park 2: However, we cannot authorise any extension of the parking facilities, because this would enable more people to drive into Headington and park.
This is another reminder, if one were needed, that Alice in Wonderland was the work of an Oxford author.
