THE coffers of many West Oxfordshire businesses have rattled with the Downton dollar for sometime now.
The hit TV show Downton Abbey has been a massive boon for tourism in places such as Bampton and Cogges Manor Farm, where filming for the ITV series has taken place.
It has become a mini-Mecca for fans of the show and has spawned memorabilia, bus tours and even famous sausages from a local butchers.
The latest filming taking place looks to be the last as ITV announced the sixth series of the show will be the last.
No more will Dame Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville be spotted between takes.
But businesses and residents will hope that once the show wraps up, the effect continues.
The Downton effect can become the Downton legacy and continue to attract visitors from across the globe.
Tourism chiefs need to ensure that they capitalise on the show’s impact and negate the effect of the series’ departure.
It should also prove that our county is ideal for film locations, from Christ Church to Blenheim Palace, and help attract new crews and casts for future production.
