THERE was much hand-wringing and lots of solemn promises just a few weeks ago when the Serious Case Review revealed the failures in the Bullfinch sex abuse scandal.

Findings revealed in the review, not least that more than 370 children were identified as potential victims, continue to shock communities.

Politicians, leaders and the Government promised everything would be done to make sure it wouldn’t happen again and that lessons had been learned.

It was admitted that not enough was done to support the victims but that had all changed.

Now’s the time to back those words with something more concrete. Money.

While many of the perpetrators have now been locked up where they belong, we cannot be complacent that we won’t see a repeat of Bullfinch.

Vulnerable girls still need the support of authorities, but they need the funds to maintain it. To not provide the cash needed would be more reprehensible than the blunders of the past. All of those who spoke out after the scandal should now put their money where their mouths are and make sure all the noise is followed up with action.
