A MAN was taken to hospital after a fire on a canal boat last night.

Fire services were called out at 10.50pm to calls that a canal boat had caught fire near the William Lucy Way towpath.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman Rachael Windsor-Knot said they had sent two fire crews, a rescue boat and a 4x4 vehicle.

She added: “One adult male was taken to hospital via ambulance and the fire service will be doing an investigation.

“The police also attended the scene.”   

Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Charlotte Redman said: “We were called at midnight last night to a fire on a canal boat near Hythe Bridge Street.

“One male was taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be life threatening.

“We are investigation and no one has been arrested at this stage.”
