ROBERT Laughton, left, paid five guineas (£5.25) for the privilege of getting the first slice from a roasted ox at the village gala in 1961. Serving him was actor Bernard Fox, a guest at the event, and looking on was Eddie Barran, who was in charge of the roast.

FOUR youngsters walked 47 miles along the Oxford Canal towpath from Tackley to Coventry in 13 hours in 1987 to raise money for the village youth centre and Harefield Hospital, Middlesex. They were Craig Broome, pictured left, Andrew Simmonds, right, Ritchie Kilbee and Paul Bass.

THE village sports club enjoyed a successful year in 1965, with both football and cricket teams doing well. Dame Felicity Peake is seen handing chairman John Profitt a trophy to mark the club’s appreciation of his cricketing skills.
