Oxfordshire residents woke up with a blanket of snow outside their houses this morning

With temperatures plunging to -2C in the city, according to the Met Office, light snow began falling last night.

And the Met Office has warned there could be more snow to come on Wednesday and Thursday.

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued which is valid from 6pm tonight to 11am tomorrow.

A second warning is in place for 12.05am on Thursday until 11.55pm the same day.

People have been warned that there could be disruption to travel on both days with as much as 3cm of snow forecast to fall on Thursday.

Oxford Bus Company is warning of delays of up to 45 minutes on its services because of snow and ice across the county.

A plume of cold air, dubbed the "Beast from the East", is set to blow in from Siberia which could bring snow to every part of the UK.

The 4,000-mile wide weather front is due to arrive tomorrow night and will make temperatures in the Midlands and south of England feel colder than Greenland.

As temperatures fall to sub-zero ice will be the main issue, according the Met Office.

Spokeswoman for the Met Office Laura Young said: "Ice will be a real issue and we urge people to really keep an eye on the warnings.

"Untreated roads and high ground above 100 metres will see snow, but there is very little precipitation in Oxfordshire but there may be snow and sleet showers. It's going to be very cold."
