CITY councillors are to scrutinise the work of a newly-created partnership between the county’s local authorities, universities and businesses next Monday.

The council’s scrutiny committee will discuss meetings of the Oxfordshire Growth Board held since its founding in September. At that meeting the board made the controversial decision to review the green belt by next June.

This sparked outcry from countryside groups and calls for caution from Oxford Civic Society, which warned the protected land was of “vital importance”.

Council leaders say the review is necessary to help find space for 32,000 homes needed in the next 17 years. Sites include land south of Grenoble Road in Oxford, Yarnton, Wheatley, a site south of Kidlington and land north of Abingdon.
