A 63-year-old man was given a suspended sentence at Oxford Crown Court for breaching an anti-social behaviour order.

Phillip Himpson, 63, previously of Percy Street, Oxford, received an Asbo on October 21, 2005, from district judge Brian Loosley at Oxford Magistrates' Court.

He is banned from entering Percy Street until October 20, 2007, to prevent him from racially abusing and harassing his neighbour. He is also prohibited from contacting his neighbour.

He was found guilty of breaching this in July 2006 and sentenced to a 28-week, suspended sentence for two years.

PC Robert Steel, Oxford anti-social behaviour officer, said: "Mr Himpson is lucky he hasn't gone to jail and this sentence is a warning that if he commits another offence he will be imprisoned.

"His harassment of an innocent member of the public and his wife has gone on for more than two years. This conviction shows that the police and the courts are treating this kind of racial abuse seriously and that it will not be tolerated."

Mr Himpson was also evicted from his address in Percy Street, and is living in North Oxford.
