Chiltern Railways services between Oxford and London Marylebone suffered severe disruption this morning due to the failure of the signalling system in north London.
Only one train an hour was operating between London and Oxfordshire stations until lunchtime due to the fault.
Engineers solved the problem at 1.30pm, but Chiltern has warned passengers that disruption was likely to continue for the rest of the day, due to trains and crew being out of position.
