HUNDREDS of young film fans gave a boost to Oxford Children's Hospital at a preview screening of the new Charlotte's Web movie.

Multiplex managers at the Ozone Leisure park, in Grenoble Road, gave the hospital a chance to turn the show into a mini-fundraiser.

It was an opportunity for families to catch an early glimpse of the big screen adaptation of the novel which features the voices of Oprah Winfrey and Julia Roberts.

And more than 350 people queued up at the box office to help raise about £1,700 for the Chox appeal. Alison Barnes, communications manager at the children's hospital, was thrilled with the turn-out.

She said: "There were lots of smiling faces coming through the doors and everyone seemed to enjoy the film. We are very grateful for the cinema for helping raise this money with just two hours work."

The hospital and the cinema are already considering possible fundraising screenings in the future.
