FESTIVE revellers who overdo it this Christmas will be offered the services of South Central Ambulance Service’s SOS bus tonight and on New Year’s Eve.

The bus, which offers treatment to patients with minor injuries, has run at weekends since it launched on November 14.

The two extra services will run to cope with extra demand on particularly busy nights of the festive season.

It will run from 10.30pm on December 24 and December 31 until 5.30am the following morning.

The bus will be based in Cornmarket Street and be staffed by ambulance staff, Royal Air Force nurses and St John Ambulance volunteers.

South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman Catherine Morrow said: “We would encourage people to be winter wise by drinking sensibly throughout Christmas and the New Year as injuries and accidents are more likely and more severe with the influence of alcohol.

“If you do sustain minor injuries or illnesses please use the most appropriate resources available to you.

“The SOS bus will reduce the need for people to attend A&E, helping to relieve pressure on health services over the winter months.”
