TIM Traynor and Melissa Hawtin claimed their second successive Oxfordshire Schools' Cross Country titles at Radley College.

Traynor (King Alfred's, Wantage), who triumphed at under 17 last year, stormed to victory in the under 19 boys' race this time.

In perfect weather conditions, he crossed the line ahead of Carl Bradbury (Henley College) and Ed Womersley (St Edward's, Oxford) in the 6.75k event.

Hawtin (Gosford Hill, Kidlington), meanwhile, retained her under 15 girls' title, from Beth Swords (Headington) and Danielle Anderson (Matthew Arnold, Cumnor) over the 2.6k course.

Swords' elder sister, Bea (Headington), took the honours in the under 17 girls' race over 5.25k.

Last year's winner, Sophie Tyers (Bloxham), was second with Sarah Mills (Bloxham) third.

The race also saw three sisters from Henry Box, Witney, finish in the top 20 - twins Kitty, in seventh, and Ella Gorman, in 11th, with their year younger sibling Leah 19th.

Abingdon College's Lauren Tolmie claimed victory in the under 19 girls' race over 3.75k, with Livvy Napier (Lord Williams's, Thame) second and Maud van den Broecke (Headington) third.

Franzi Gackstatter (Headington) finished seventh, but was disqualified as she was too old to run in the race.

There was drama in the under 15 boys' race when leader Perry Jolley (Bloxham) went the wrong way when holding a clear lead.

After getting back on track in the 4.1k event, he suffered the additional agony of finishing ninth - one place outside the qualifying positions for Oxfordshire's team for the English Schools' Championsips at Temple Newsam Park, Leeds on Saturday, March 24.

Victory went to Tom Foxon, who led home an Abingdon School one-two with Alistair Duff runner-up, with Harry Robertson (Bartholomew, Eynsham) third.

Rhys Glastonbury (Bartholomew) stepped up on his fourth-place finish in the under 17 boys' race 12 months ago to take the glory this time.

He crossed the line in the 5.25k event ahead of Phillipe Essink (European, Culham) and Charlie Bennett (Cherwell, Oxford).

In the team races, there were double successes for Abingdon School and Headington in the boys and girls races respectively.

The Vale championships were incorporated into the county event as it hasn't been possible to find a new date following their postponement of two weeks ago.

Traynor, Essink and Foxon were the boys champions.

The under 19 girls' title went to Jennifer Graham (Wallingford).
