WHEN music teacher Trev Williams moved to Rose Hill he was keen to hit the streets and keep up his interest in running.

But then he saw the opportunity to do something more and set up Rose Hill Runners, a running group which the 33-year-old said he hopes can boost community cohesion and health in the area.

He said: “Being new to the area and being a keen runner I wanted to do some running with other people. I found out there was already running here and I thought I could try and set something up.

“I was quite conscious that I might be a bit out of my depth setting something up by myself so I got a couple of friends involved and it grew from there.

“I am a very community minded person and I think community is very important.”

The group held their first trial run in August and about seven runners regularly turn up for the sessions, which take place every Monday at 7pm.

Mr Williams said he was hopeful there would soon be enough runners for two groups, one for more experienced runners and one for beginners.

Runs begin at The Oval and take a 5km route around the estate.

Mr Williams said: “We vary the routes but now it is getting dark earlier we basically run along street-lit roads through the estate and sometimes into Iffley.

“I was talking to a former police officer the other day who said he felt there was a need for this sort of project in the area.

“Running projects are very healthy things and people who see us passing by will hopefully join in.

“I’d like to think they are happy it is happening in their area. It is a way of networking and meeting people in the Rose Hill.”
