Specialist consultants have been appointed to investigate whether the new eco-town can be heated by burning rubbish.
Ramboll will gather data and information to see if the scheme is viable.
Last year Cherwell District Council was given an £83,000 grant from the Department of Energy and Climate Change’s Heat Network Delivery Unit to see if it could get the scheme off the ground.
The energy would come from Viridor’s Energy Recovery Facility at Ardley.
