Detectives and firefighters were still in Kidlington this morning at the scene of a blaze in which a man died.

Emergency services arrived in Wilsdon Way yesterday after the fire broke out at a house in the cul-de-sac about 1pm.

Black smoke was seen coming from the property and the man died, despite attempts to save him.

Today Thames Valley Police continued to describe the death as "unexplained" and appealed for witnesses.

Force spokesman Connie Primmer said the man has not yet been formally identified but is believed to be aged in his 50s.

She said: "Initially it was suggested the man was in his 30s but he is now thought to be in his 50s.

"His next of kin have been informed but a post mortem examination has not yet taken place."

Firefighters and police crime scene investigators are at the house to try to establish how the blaze started.

Ms Primmer said no one has been arrested.

Anyone with any information about the incident or saw anything out of the ordinary before the fire should call police on 101.
