Sir – If, as reported, the county council leader really said that Hanborough station holds the key to unlocking West Oxfordshire’s traffic problems, who was he trying to kid?

As you point out, the car park there was extended last year and has 191 spaces. Last Wednesday, in the late morning, it was between two-thirds and three-quarters full.

Charlbury station also had its car park extended not long ago and that is frequently full in the mornings.

If, say, 60 more drivers parked at Hanborough and took the train to Oxford, that car park would also be full.

Does Mr Hudspeth seriously think that taking 60 cars off the road would make a significant difference?
