SPEAKERS at an event at the Ashmolean Museum have called for greater awareness of art and artefacts that are being destroyed in Syria.
Ashmolean Middle East keeper Dr Paul Collins and Dr Venetia Porter, of the British Museum, gave lectures detailing some of the “great treasures” found in the country over the years. Dr Collins said: “We wanted to highlight the ongoing conflict and to stress that people’s cultural heritage is very important.’’
