THIS is the final straw. I have regularly read the Oxford Mail for years. I am a massive football fan and a fan of our local team, Oxford United. Like most football fans, I also have a keen interest in local football and regularly check the back pages for the results.

Recently, I checked the results in the back pages of the Oxford Mail and to my annoyance at the top of the results for all the football are the women’s football results.

They are above the men’s and the boys’ and the girls’.

Why is this?

Any true football fan will tell you that more men and boys play football than women and girls. Therefore the popularity of men’s and boys’ football is greater than women’s and girls’ I think it is fair to conclude.

So, why do I see women’s football plastered everywhere in the Oxford Mail?

Anyone who knows anything about football knows in their heart of hearts that men’s football is far better than women’s football. The only conclusion I can come to is that good old cliché – political correctness gone mad.

The pendulum has swung too far now.

Let’s start using some good, old common sense and get things into proportion.
